Bixby International Teams Up With Dupont Packaging and Industrial Polymers to Help Manufacture and Market the PV5400 Series of Photovoltaic Encapsulates
Newburyport, Massachusetts (PRWEB) November 17, 2015 -- Bixby International, a custom thermoplastic sheet extruder and laminator, is proud of the work it does on behalf of its many clients. We also are proud to work collaboratively with clients to help bring new solutions to end applications. Bixby is well suited to work in this manner because of its fast, cost-effective pilot line development capabilities. Clients often tell Bixby that it delivers prototype samples to them in weeks rather than the months it takes others to do the same.
One recent collaborative effort involved DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers (DuPont). DuPont and Bixby both have history in the photovoltaic (PV) market, and over the years have worked together on certain encapsulant formulations using DuPont polymers. As DuPont searched for manufacturing partners for some encapsulant technologies, they found in Bixby the ideal capabilities and together agreed to have Bixby manufacture and market the DuPont PV5400 series of photovoltaic encapsulants.
"Bixby has been a custom extruder of DuPont products for many decades," said Alex Saba, business manager of DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers. "Bixby's strong knowledge of PV products and the market, coupled with its customer focus, make it a great choice to produce and sell the PV5400 series products. We're excited to strengthen our relationship with Bixby and expect continued growth in these product lines."
The Thermoplastic Photovoltaic encapsulants that Bixby helped DuPont develop are specifically for glass-to-glass or bifacial constructions, but the ionomeric encapsulants offer key benefits over traditional cross-linked EVA encapsulants such as:
Ionomeric Encapsulant Benefits
Improvement Expected
No Moisture ingress
No need for edge seal in the construction
Superior Structural Integrity vs. EVA and PVB in glass-glass laminations
Longer Performance life
No Cross-linking or curing required
More efficient for building modules
Fewer degradation products in formulation
Longer life of solar cells
All this results in better long-term efficiency (more power produced) over traditional cross-linked EVA encapsulated products.
Bixby now has three families of photovoltaic encapsulants-Bixcure™, BixTherm™ and PV5400. Each is positioned against different market or application needs. By combining Bixby's fast, flexible custom extrusion capabilities, and its overall development-minded and responsive culture with DuPont's superior polymer science, it is easy to see that this specialty PV encapsulant is the right solution where its specific technical advantages are needed.
Dennis Lauzon, Vice President Sales Bixby speaks to why it enjoys working closely with DuPont, "We rely very heavily on our supply base for technical support and market information. To have an alliance with DuPont on these ionomeric encapsulant films takes this supplier relationship to the next level. We are very pleased to be the exclusive converter and marketer of these resins and expect that this will be a very successful platform for both of our companies."
