For Lori Flynn, Mother’s Day Means Building a House for a Mother in Need
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) May 26, 2015 -- People around the nation recently celebrated their mothers on Mother’s Day. For Lori Flynn, in addition to celebrating her own mother, the veteran real estate professional helped another mother in need, one whom she had never even met, helping to finish building a home for a Habitat for Humanity family.
The recipient, a single mother of two, heard about Habitat on the radio, inquired about the program and was eventually accepted as a partner family with Habitat for Humanity of Hamilton County. “The family has since been diligent in fulfilling the ‘sweat equity’ hours of the program,” said Lori. “This is designed to contribute to the feeling of ownership in the partner family’s homeowner journey.”
The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to create opportunities for all people to live in decent, durable shelter by helping to build, renovate or preserve homes, and by partnering with others to accelerate and broaden access to affordable housing as a foundation for breaking the cycle of poverty. It believes that every person has something to contribute and something to gain from creating communities in which all people have decent, affordable places to live, and that dignity and hope are best achieved through equitable, accountable partnerships.
“The mother was so excited because homeownership means a sense of stability for her and her children with a secure place to call home,” said Lori. “For me, it was an honor to help them achieve that stability. As a person whose business is homeownership, I believe everyone should have a roof over their head, not just those who can afford it.”
