California Municipal Utilities Association Hosts CA Senators Fran Pavley and Lois Wolk at Gathering of Leaders of CA Publicly Owned Utilities and Water Agencies
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) February 07, 2016 -- California and the world are increasingly facing unprecedented challenges when it comes to issues dealing with energy, water, and the environment. Driven by an increasing global population, which is straining the planet’s climate equilibrium, the challenges we face are no longer intangible future concepts. They are here and now and they are having an impact on our quality of life. It is against this backdrop that leaders of California’s publicly owned utilities and water agencies gathered for Capitol Day, an event hosted by the California Municipal Utilities Association.
The day-long event, which took place on February 1st, was an opportunity for utility and water agency leaders to hear from State Legislators and Regulators about topics of the day, as well as share their perspectives from the front lines.
CMUA President Michelle Bertolino, who is also the Electric Utility Director at Roseville Electric Utility, stated: “California’s public owned utilities and water agencies are designed to serve the specific needs of their local communities, but what many people don’t know is that publicly owned utilities serve over one fourth of California electric customers while publicly owned water agencies serve more than two thirds of the state’s water customers. With our great diversity of approaches, we’re finding that we are essentially incubators for the ideas that will help solve the broader environmental challenges facing the world.”
Capitol Day featured speakers included: California Senators Fran Pavley and Lois Wolk, California Assemblymembers Cristina Garcia, Marc Levine, Autumn Burke, and Chief Deputy Director for State Water Board Eric Oppenheimer.
CMUA Executive Director Dave L. Modissete stated the following regarding Capitol Day: “The Leaders of California’s publicly owned utilities and water agencies understand that we have to work to together to solve the State’s difficult energy and water challenges. I am inspired by the dedication they displayed to this cause at our Capitol Day Event.”
