ANCASTER, Ontario (PRWEB) July 28, 2014 -- According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, one in five girls and one in 20 boys will be victims of sexual abuse. Author Carine Mapish hopes to give victims of sexual abuse a voice with her new book, “Dirty Sex Crime” (published by AuthorHouse).
Mapish, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, writes of her childhood in Africa. She discusses her personal experiences as a victim of sexual abuse from a young age. She describes the difficulty she had in being open about what happened to her and identifying those she trusted as attackers. Her candid account invites readers who may be survivors of abuse to open up and come forward.
“It is never too late to open up about a crime that has happened to you,” Mapish says. “Keeping it a secret will destroy every part of you.”
An excerpt from “Dirty Sex Crime”:
“There are no words that can describe in detail the mix of feelings that a survivor will probably feel for the rest of his or her life, or for a long period of his or her life. It’s an extreme anger, all the while knowing that they are unable to do much. It’s a profound sadness that a single look of a passerby can crush you without explanation. It’s a self-disgust that makes you wish you could change bodies so that you would no longer be a survivor.”
