Multitalented Musician and Engineer Cassidy Turbin Receives a Prestigious TEC Nomination for Beck’s Morning Phase
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 22, 2015 -- Accomplished percussionist and engineer Cassidy Turbin has received a TEC Award nomination for his engineering on Beck’s latest album, Morning Phase. Turbin’s nomination was for Outstanding Creative Achievement for a Studio Design Project.
Cassidy says, “We put in a lot of hours and hard work, and it’s a great feeling to be acknowledged for that.” In addition to his TEC Award nomination, Cassidy has received two Grammy nominations in the categories of Best Album of the Year and Best Engineered Album for the same album.
Cassidy is up against the following records in the same category: Ghost Stories (Coldplay), Girl (Pharelll Williams), Lazaretto (Jack Black) and New Paul McCartney (Paul McCartney).
The TEC Awards, which is in its thirtieth year, is presented annually by the NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) Foundation at The NAMM Show, which “recognizes the individuals, companies and technical innovations behind the sound of recordings, live performances, films, television, video games, and other media,” according to its website. The NAMM Foundation holds the purpose of increasing participation in music making throughout one’s lifespan, and to accomplish this mission, it supports scientific research, philanthropic missions, and public service programs. TEC Awards nominations are determined by a panel of industry professionals.
Cassidy is at heart a passionate percussionist with a celebrated knack for creating drum loops and drum tracks. At the age of 15, he attended The Collective® School of Music in New York City. He is a graduate of the Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music and holds an associate degree in Business Administration. In 2009 Cassidy was introduced to artist and producer Beck, with whom he formed a tight relationship while wearing various hats in Beck’s projects: audio-engineering, programming for video game music, preparing sheet music for recording sessions and even setting up Beck’s personal studios. Cassidy considers these years to be a period of vast influence on him professionally as well as personally. He considers it an honor to have had the opportunity to help produce Morning Phase along with the rest of Beck’s team.
At only 28 years old, Cassidy has already contributed as an engineer to dozens of notable songs and albums, including the White Stripes’ Hardest Button to Button (Beck Remix), Charlotte Gainsbourg’s Stage Whisper (2012) and Terrible Angles EP (2011), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack, The Haunted Man by Bat for Lashes (2012), and Dwight Yackum’s 21st Century Hits: Best of 2000-2012 (2013) and Three Pears (2012).
