Cell Phones For Soldiers Celebrates 200 Million Minutes Of Free Talk Time For Troops
Boston (PRWEB) November 07, 2013 -- With five days remaining until the 75th celebration of Veterans Day, Cell Phones for Soldiers® also celebrates its 200th million minute donated to active-duty troops and veterans.
Since 2004, Cell Phones for Soldiers has actively supported troops serving overseas by providing an estimated 3.3 million calling cards allowing military members a free call home. The milestone recognizes the charity’s mission to provide that precious connection for military members to the people they love most. Each week the charity mails approximately 8,000 calling cards.
The intent of providing “Minutes That Matter” is easily summarized from a woman who recently ordered a Cell Phones for Soldiers calling card. “Thank you so very much for putting this together for our deployed service people. It makes all the difference in the world to hear a loved one’s voice. What you are doing is such a comforting service to our family.”
Beginning in 2012, Cell Phones for Soldiers introduced “Helping Heroes Home,” a program designed to provide emergency funds for returning veterans to alleviate communication challenges as well as physical, emotional and assimilation hardships.
In a year, Helping Heroes Home has provided a variety of support mechanisms to more than 300 veterans to help them “get back on their feet,” such as communication services; paying for rent to avoid eviction; imperative car repairs; and more.
“There is a critical need to support veterans here at home as well as lifting up our troops overseas,” said Brittany Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones for Soldiers. “When we founded Cell Phones for Soldiers almost 10 years ago, it was that commitment to provide comfort, hope and support to the men and women who sacrifice so much for our freedom. There is still a need to rally behind our troops and veterans.”
As citizens celebrate America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good, it is essential to continue supporting both active-duty troops and veterans. Through Cell Phones for Soldiers’ “Helping Heroes Home” and “Minutes That Matter” programs, supporters can easily join in the mission by:
1. Donating a gently-used mobile phone;
2. Selling a cell phone through its Apple iPhone buyback program; and
3. Donating valuable funds.
