Chen Lee Sun Offers New Translation of Laozi’s ‘Daodejing’
Encinitas, Calif. (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- In “Laozi's Daodejing--From Philosophical and Hermeneutical Perspectives: The English and Chinese Translations Based on Laozi’s Original Daoism” (published by iUniverse), author Chen Lee Sun translates “Daodejing,” the work of renowned ancient Chinese philosopher, Laozi, into English in order to create a better, more exact version of the original Chinese text for an English audience.
“Laozi's Daodejing--From Philosophical and Hermeneutical Perspectives” explores the philosophies of Daoism, a concept created by Laozi, and distinguishes it from the religion, Daoism. Laozi believed the Dao, or “the path,” was the source of all existence. According to Laozi, upsetting nature would disrupt the natural balance of Dao. Sun’s writing aims to help readers return to a natural state of harmony with Dao.
“Nearly all translations on Laozi’s ‘Daodejing’ were only 60 percent correct linguistically and philosophically, due to its archaic language and deep philosophical thoughts,” says Sun. “It aims at exacting the original meaning of the celebrated book ‘Daodejing’ by Laozi.”
Chen carefully unpacks this 4,000-year old text for readers and includes the original Chinese translation for further study. She hopes to leave readers with a “deeper understanding about self, the world and liberty.”
