Panama City Functional Medicine Clinic Gains New Heart Rate Diagnostic Technology
Panama City, FL (PRWEB) May 28, 2017 -- Starting in May, patients at The Bay Clinic of Chiropractic will now be treated with Nerve-Express, the latest Heart Rate Variability (HRV) diagnostic test.
Nerve-Express, originally designed for the Navy in the 1980s, measures the change in a patient’s heart rate and R-R interval, indicating the state of a patient’s autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS controls all the critical unconscious functions of the body including breathing, regulating blood pressure, digestion, and of course, heartbeat. Using this technology, the Bay Clinic staff can gain unprecedented insight into the functioning and healing of the body.
The procedure is quick, reliable, non-invasive, and completely painless: a small EKG sensor is attached to the patient, and data collected is sent to a specialized software. After only five minutes, sufficient data has been gathered to paint a complete picture of the patient’s ANS functioning.
Despite the name, the HRV is more of a nervous system test rather than a heart test, and the results of this diagnostic technique can provide insight for effective long-term care to help a patient live without chronic pain. The ANS is composed of two parts: the sympathetic nervous system, which is the body’s “fight or flight” stress response, and the parasympathetic nervous system, which regulates relaxation, digestion, growth, and sleep. Both are vital to the body’s normal processes, and if the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems are not properly balanced, healing is all but impossible. The Nerve-Express HRV tests the state of each of these ANS components to assess if the nervous system is in a state that is conducive to healing.
Most of the time in chronically ill patients or people suffering from chronic pain or discomfort, the ANS isn’t working properly. No matter what treatments are applied, it is extremely difficult to heal in this state, which is why many patients face a brick wall trying to get better—they take every pill, supplement, potion and lotion and never seem to overcome their condition. With many trials and errors and frequent relapses, it’s easy to feel that one is going around in circles.
The expertly-trained staff of The Bay Clinic of Chiropractic, however, can get to the root of a problem using this new HRV technology, and is able to determine how a patient’s health is improving and how fast and well they’re healing. Age- and stress-related illnesses are often linked to a person’s poor HRV reading, including but not limited to diabetes, heart disease, anxiety, and high blood pressure, and this diagnostic test can indicate a cause and potential road to wellness for sufferers of these conditions.
