Portland Mobile Innovation Firm Makes Inc. Magazine’s List of Fastest Growing Private Companies in the United States
Portland, Ore. (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Inc. Magazine today announced that Citizen Inc., a global leader in mobile innovation based in Portland, Oregon, is number seven in the Top 100 companies in Oregon and 710 overall on its 32nd annual Inc. 5000, an exclusive ranking of the nation's fastest-growing private companies.
This is Citizen’s first appearance on this comprehensive and prestigious annual ranking of the nation’s most successful private companies.
Founded in 2005 by CEO Drew Klonsky, Citizen creates brand-defining, market-shifting mobile experiences that enhance and extend the lives of connected users. Citizen’s end-to-end offerings have helped transform some of the world’s biggest brands, carriers, and broadcast media companies, including Intel, AT&T, ABC/Disney and Samsung. Citizen is based in Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington.
“We are excited to join with the other innovative entrepreneurs who have been named to this list over the years,” said Klonsky. “For the past eight years, we have worked hard to create connected thinking for all levels of the mobile sector. Joining the Inc. 5000 not only reflects our success in doing so, but shows what an incubator for mobile innovation Portland has become.”
“The Inc. 5000 was harder to get into this year than ever in its history,” stated Eric Schurenberg, Editor in Chief of Inc. Magazine, in his congratulatory letter. “The median company on the list increased sales more than 140 percent since the start of 2010, while the average honoree grew a mind-boggling 468 percent.” Mr. Schurenberg continued, “Those are results most companies could only dream of in the economy of the past three years.”
The 2013 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2009 to 2012. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2009, and have revenue no less than $2 million in 2012. Additionally, they had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent.
Citizen has grown 645% in the past three years, quadrupling its staff and increasing its revenue from $1.6 million in 2009 to $12.3 million in 2012.
