Owner of Aaron’s Plumbing Aaron Check Combats El Niño with Preventative Plumbing Measures
Orange, CA (PRWEB) November 23, 2015 -- “The main problem with adverse weather and excessive rain, as we will soon see with El Niño, is with area drains around a house not being able to handle all that water, which could be due to roots in drain lines or improper fall of the drain grade,” said Aaron. “Additionally, sewer lines might be affected if area drains were plumbed into a home’s sewer, causing sewer refineries to fill past capacity.”
According to the LA Times article, the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center has already forecast a higher chance of a wet winter for almost all of California. In fact, California stands to receive above-normal amounts of rain from January to March 2016, with the Los Angeles area getting 60-69 percent above-normal precipitation.
Before the heavy rains come, Aaron suggests people ascertain if they have an area drain on their property or if they need one. If you do, there will be drain grates in the concrete areas of your yard and possibly in planter areas. If not, you will need area drains if flooding occurs. Aaron also stresses as a preventative measure that all area drains be flow-checked annually before the rainy season, and definitely before El Niño hits.
“This is easily accomplished, and only takes an experienced plumber about an hour and a half, depending on the size of the yard and number of drains,” said Aaron. “You don’t want to wait too long to do this because if you put this off and the heavy rains come there can be major property damage due to flooding that can enter the home through doors, resulting in major home renovation that might not be covered by insurance.”
