New FDA Rules on Gluten-Free: New Cookie by Design Passes the Test, National Launch
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 07, 2013 -- This year the U.S. Food and Drug Administration published a new regulation defining the term "gluten-free" for voluntary food labeling. (see link to August 2, 2013, "FDA defines "gluten-free" for food labeling"). This will provide a uniform standard definition to help the up to 3 million Americans who have celiac disease, an autoimmune digestive condition that can be effectively managed only by eating a gluten free diet.
The new regulation requires that, in order to use the term "gluten-free" on its label, a food must meet all of the requirements of the definition, including that the food must contain less than 20 parts per million of gluten. The rule also requires foods with the claims “no gluten,” “free of gluten,” and “without gluten” to meet the definition for “gluten-free.”
But what are the best options out there that actually taste good and pass the test?! We found one – Cookies By Design (CBD) is launching a new Gluten-free cookie that tastes as good as their sugar cookie or macadamia nut cookie! The company confidently says “if you didn’t know, you wouldn’t know.”
CBD will soon have a large piece of the gluten-free retail market -- which is currently a $4.5 billion industry worldwide. The October 1st launch of the gluten-free cookies is expected to increase sales as much as 15 percent. This is the first gluten-free cookie available in a bouquet, personalized and deliverable. They can customize the cookies to suit any need and deliver directly around the country.
Gluten-free diets are recommended for many types of digestive disorders or simply for digestive health.
Although the company's headquarters is based in Plano, TX there are around 100 Cookies By Design franchises coast to coast. The business has been around for 30 years, and was started by a single, unemployed mother baking cookies out of her home.
