CriminalRecords.us.org is set to release a comprehensive dictionary to help consumers decode legal terms, the company said yesterday.
“People often run into legal jargon when they deal with the court system,” a CriminalRecords.us.org spokesman said. “Not understanding what the terms mean can make it difficult for people to decide if they need a lawyer or not, or what they should do to protect their best interests. We feel that if we give them a way to understand what the jargon means, we can empower them. That's what we want to do.”
The guide will take several hundred of the most commonly used terms in legal jargon and explain them in plain English, he said.
“We also think this dictionary will help our customers,” he said. “Sometimes, for the sake of accuracy, our reports need to contain legal jargon. Now, when people get their reports they'll be able to refer to this dictionary if they have any questions about what something means. This can help make our reports more valuable.”
The idea for the guide came from the current CriminalRecords.us.org customer base, he said.
“People were coming to us with questions about what some sections of our reports meant,” he said. “Our customer service staff pointed this out to us, so we decided to do something about it.”
The dictionary will be created with the help of legal experts and should be available in the next few weeks, he said.
