The fresh, inspiring devotional book, “According to the Word: A Weekly Devotional and Journal” (published by WestBow Press) by D.A. Kenny, presents topics intended to strengthen, encourage, and reinforce Christians as they become more mature in their faith.
In the introduction of her book, Kenny likens maturing in one’s Bible reading to a baby who progresses from being sustained only by milk to taking in food. She suggests people interested in maturing in their faith do not settle for a surface look at the Bible, but begin to mull over God’s Word and delve deeper.
“According to the Word” is separated into two sections – the first provides a weekly devotional with Bible references and a place for them to write their thoughts. The second encourages readers in their own Bible reading and study.
The large format of this book makes for easier reading. Kenny encourages self-directed study by providing reading plans with a number of maps, charts, and tables. She emphasizes that her book can be used by the individual, in small study groups, or even as inspiration for those preaching God’s word.
