Author D.E. McReynolds’ first book, “Go East: The Romance of Abraham and Keturah,” concludes with Abraham sending his six sons, born to him by his third wife, Keturah, east. He knew that they had to be sent away in order to avoid conflict with future descendants of his first wife Sarah and their son Isaac, heir to the Promised Land. The book, however, leaves its readers with few questions and one of them is “If Abraham sent his six sons east where he hoped they would go, how far east would they go?” In McReynolds’ GO EAST: Six Sons of Abraham and Keturah, readers will find the answer to this and many other questions as the book follows the journey of Abraham’s six sons towards their ultimate destiny.
This book hypothetically depicts how Abraham’s six sons want adventure and exploration. They did not go east, but west where two of them had already done internship in Sidon—one as ship builder and the other in government administration. These two brothers encourage their four other brothers into going back to Sidon with them, and they did. They settled in, put their journey east on hold and things went well for them. It would take a catastrophe, however, to bring them to their intended destiny. This will remind the readers that though baggage comes along with the mistakes in people’s lives, sometimes it has a mixed blessing for stabilizing obligations, corrections or direction to further the destiny, making it more meaningful and appreciated as it happened in the lives of Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah, the sons of Abraham and Keturah.
GO EAST: Six Sons of Abraham and Keturah is an engaging book with a storyline based on scripture and history peppered with adventure, tragedy and romance young men may be involved in. Readers will surely find valuable lessons and insight from this account, which may be useful in their day to day life journey and struggles.
