I started writing out of love for my family. I’ve realized that we have no control over the future, and blindly trying is sometimes all we can do.

In his first crime novel, “Lonely Deceptions,” D.R. Willis explored the unknown, telling the tale of Nick Davis, a small-town man who was unknowingly thrust into a web of international intrigue.
“In Shadows,” Willis’ exciting prequel, takes place just after World War II and follows Nelson Davis, the last surviving member of the Davis family, as he teams up with a beautiful reporter to uncover a maze of mysterious clues that lead him down an unexpected path to the truth.
“For quite a while, I wrestled with myself about whether to write a sequel or a prequel,” Willis said. “But the thought of visiting the past to get a glimpse of how events unfolded, to see what transpired before ‘Lonely Deceptions,’ fascinated me.”
Once a full-time chocolatier, Willis began his writing career when his mother became legally blind. While reading his stories to her, he realized writing was his passion.
“About one year after my mother passed, I came up with the idea for ‘Lonely Deceptions,’” Willis said. “The story took on a life of its own and I wanted to honor my mother by continuing the story she encouraged me to write. This led to ‘In Shadows.’”
A story that reinforces how seldom we’re aware of the events that become life altering, “In Shadows” focuses on the fundamental power of a family’s bond.
“I started writing out of love for my family,” Willis said. “I’ve realized that we have no control over the future, and blindly trying is sometimes all we can do.”
