Data Privacy Day is a chance to revisit our obligation to protect patient data. By expanding our educational events, Clearwater hopes to help take healthcare security and privacy protection to the next level. – Bob Chaput, CEO, Clearwater Compliance
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) January 28, 2014
In celebration of Data Privacy Day, Clearwater Compliance has announced an expanded schedule of educational forums to assist healthcare organizations become or remain HIPAA-HITECH compliant especially in light of new HIPAA regulations.
The company is offering a variety of workshops and webinars designed to help healthcare organizations better safeguard patient health information.
“The health care industry has matured in its understanding about what is required to keep protected health information truly secure and private but there is still a lot of confusion about how to put it all in place,” said Bob Chaput, CEO and founder of Clearwater Compliance. “We are expanding upon and enhancing the educational events we offer to help healthcare organizations identify security risks and put a mitigation plan in place.”
Data privacy is an ongoing challenge. Since 2010, over 70,000 violation complaints have been filed with the Office for Civil Rights. During this time, personal health information for almost 30 million Americans has been compromised.
“Attendance at Clearwater events about HIPAA-HITECH solutions continues to increase,” Chaput added. “Clearly, the industry knows there is a problem and is striving to meet its obligation to patients to protect their data.”
Data Privacy Day is a timely opportunity for the healthcare industry to take stock of where data security measures are right now, where they should be, and how to bridge the gaps. According to Chaput, the year ahead promises to be intense.
“In 2014, compliance hurdles and penalties are being significantly increased,” Chaput noted. “We’ve seen an increase in the number of patient complaints and high-profile breaches, as well as sub-par performance during HIPAA audits and breach investigations. The Office for Civil Rights is lowering the boom.”
