DeathRecordsLookup.com has redesigned their death records report to include obituary information when possible, the company said yesterday.
“Initially, our company was providing consumers with information compiled from government death records,” a DeathRecordsLookup.com spokesman said. “We'll still be doing that, but we discovered that there is a lot more information available to the public in the form of public domain obituary records. So, we decided to add them to our database and update our reports to include the new information.”
Obituary records often include information about the deceased's profession, charities they supported, funeral information, former spouses, and children, he said.
“They provide a deeper picture than basic death records,” he said. “If someone is using our site to try to learn more about their family history, we think this additional information will be very valuable. It took a lot of time and effort to build the new information into our database, but we think it will be important.”
The obituary data DeathRecordsLookup.com was able to access goes back several decades, he said.
“It might not be available for older death records searches, because data is still being moved from paper to digital formats,” he said. “But more and more data is being included every day. This will be an ongoing process.”
Under the new system, the obituary information will automatically be included in new reports when it is available, he said.
