Deco Lighting Donates Energy-Saving LED Lighting to the Pico Union Project in Los Angeles
Commerce, CA (PRWEB) June 17, 2015 -- Deco Lighting, a leading manufacturer of innovative energy-saving lighting solutions and advocate for community activation, is giving back to the community with a donation of several energy-saving LED area lights to the Pico Union Project, a nonprofit organization housed in the oldest Jewish synagogue building in Los Angeles that now serves as a multipurpose space and interfaith community. Deco lighting replaced all four of the historic building’s existing 470-watt metal halide fixtures with four of Deco’s 120-watt D816-LED commercial area lights. With their cost per kilowatt-hour approximated at 13.5 cents, the LED upgrade will save the Pico Union Project over $500 in energy costs per year. Deco Lighting also donated three additional LED area lights for the right side of the Pico Union Project building, which previously had not incorporated any area lighting. Prior to the installation of the new LED fixtures, the sidewalk along the right side of the building was unsafe at night, a result of the city streetlights’ inability to sufficiently illuminate the pathway. However, since the installation of the new Deco LED area lights, the area has become increasingly active during nighttime hours.
The Pico Union Project and Deco Lighting posses corresponding values; both organizations strive to foster urban revitalization, and with Deco Lighting’s help, the Pico Union Project is another step closer to its goal of invigorating the Pico Union neighborhood and surrounding community of downtown Los Angeles.
The values of the two organizations are evidenced by the efforts they make to improve the city of Los Angeles and enrich its culture. On May 3, 2015, the Pico Union Project and Deco Lighting teamed up for Big Sunday weekend, a three-day festival of service that brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to volunteer and work together at hundreds of nonprofit organizations, schools, and other agencies in need of help. Individuals and families from both organizations met at the Pico Union Project and planted trees, constructed community gardens, painted murals, and created art pieces. In addition, Deco Lighting, a long-time sponsor and promoter of job creation in the Los Angeles area, is now working with the Pico Union Project to provide jobs for individuals in recovery, ex-prisoners, and struggling teens and young adults.
“A successful community incorporates ecological sustainability and exercises environmentally responsible practices,” said Deco Lighting President, Ben Pouladian “At Deco we believe that businesses shouldn’t simply strive to make a profit for their stakeholders, but should use their power to effect social change and responsibility in their communities. The Pico Union project is doing an excellent job of rehabilitating downtown LA and making it a prosperous neighborhood, and we are excited to be able to contribute to their success.”
“We are incredibly grateful to Deco Lighting not only for their aid in improving our building, but also for their alliance in the spirit of community invigoration and, even more so, in friendship,” said Pico Union Project Executive Founder, Craig Taubman. “We absolutely look forward to continual collaboration with these wonderful partners.”
