Easily plot defocus curves when testing intraocular lenses and measure effectiveness at correcting presbyopia. M&S Technologies, Inc., the first name in computerized vision testing systems, launches Defocus Curve software designed to eliminate the hassles of constantly changing plastic back-lit charts (necessary to prevent memorization when conducting this testing). Developed in conjunction with Dr. Jack Holladay, MD, MSEE, FACS, and based on his years of experience with this testing, M&S Technologies has created an automated protocol that will walk the clinician through the testing, advising which lens to be used and quickly arriving at a visual acuity score for each lens from +2.0 through -5.0 diopters.
Using a randomized ETDRS-style chart, the clinician uses the testing software with the provided Android tablet. The clinician conducts the exam as prompted, placing trial lenses in front of the eyes and then quickly determining the visual acuity at that level of defocus. At the conclusion the plot is produced and can be printed or saved. Because the test may be conducted as many as 15 times, the randomization is critical and a large time saver over constantly switching charts, reducing test time dramatically and creating a less frustrating procedure for both clinician and patient.
