Delia D. Samuel, Ph.D. Reveals Mother’s Story 'Against the Odds'
FRIDLEY, Minn. (PRWEB) March 30, 2016 -- According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, recent estimates in the United States show that about one in six, or about 15 per cent, of children aged 3 to 17 years have one or more developmental disabilities. This translates to one in 68 identified with Autism Spectrum Disorder. But what do these numbers really mean? In her newest book, author Delia D. Samuel, Ph.D. goes beyond the statistics to explore both the ugly and beautiful truths of caring for a loved one with special needs. Drawing from personal experience, she reveals informative and inspiring insights as to how to overcome "Against the Odds" (published by Trafford Publishing).
"Against the Odds" gives a recipe to parents and caregivers for dealing with the challenges that they face with raising children with autism – a recipe filled with love, humor and faith. Having had her own share of difficulties as a single black mother who struggled with the frustrations of parenting two boys with autism for nine years, the author does not solely write with her sons as inspirations. She empathizes with parents, caregivers and loved ones and encourages them to instead break the mold and embrace the challenge that life presents to them with firm self-belief and conviction.
In this book, she gives voice to her inner conflict, details her journey with her sons and presents strategies that have helped her to cope and find inner peace. The author offers parents and caregivers the motivational and tactical tools they need to not only survive but, most importantly, make the journey worthwhile. It also targets medical professionals, educators as well as any person or organization coming into contact with individuals with autism, and anyone who wants to become more autism-aware and learn more about this disorder that is quickly growing to epidemic proportions.
A gentle read written with easy-to-read, jargon-free language, "Against the Odds" guides readers to move from a state of anger and despair to a place of acceptance and joy.
