Destin, Florida (PRWEB) February 28, 2014

The Emerald Bay Golf Club, one of the premiere courses in Northwest Florida, is announcing the commencement of a major renovation of their championship golf course by famed course designer Bob Cupp, the original designer of the Emerald Bay course and one of the premiere golf course architects in the country. Mr. Cupp, in conjunction with Southeastern Golf, a world class golf course construction company, will be updating and transforming the Emerald Bay golf course.

Bob Cupp’s career in golf course design has spanned more than forty years. He served as senior designer for Jack Nicklaus for more than 15 years before starting his own firm in 1984. Since that time, his courses have hosted over 50 national and international tournaments, including seven major championships. In 1992, Golf World named Bob the first ever Golf Architect of the Year. Golf Digest and Golf Magazine have selected his work as the best in the nation no less than four times and runner up 6 times. Bob has numerous courses on various Top 100 course lists.

The Emerald Bay course renovation will include new and enlarged greens and tee boxes, many new bunkers, a significant amount of new cart paths, several new water features and bridges as well as enhanced and additional practice facilities. The greens will be significantly larger with TifEagle Ultra Dwarf Bermudagrass which provides a very dense surface for improved putting speed and consistency.

According to Jearl McCall, Director of Golf for Emerald Bay, “The golf course is expected to be the premiere course in the Destin area when it reopens in the summer of 2014.”

The first of several Open House events is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at the Emerald Bay Golf Clubhouse starting at 5:00pm. This will be an opportunity to review the new membership programs as well as view renderings of the new course design and photos of the current progress. Heavy Hors d’oeuvre will be served, and there will be a cash bar with a variety of drink specials. Anyone interested in Emerald Bay golf is invited to attend. Please RSVP by calling the Emerald Bay Golf Shop at 850-837-5197 or email info(at)emeraldbaygolfclub(dot)com.
