On Wednesday, April 13, RE/MAX Realtor Dina James will be taking part in an Arbor Day event at Mead Elementary. “I will be providing trees for all of the fourth-graders in the school in honor of Arbor Day,” said James. “This is a wonderful way to inspire school children to plant trees and keep the spirit of Arbor Day alive.”

The event, spearheaded by Fourth Grade Foresters USA, also educates school children on how to plant a tree. They are taught to choose a sunny spot 15-20 feet away from a building and where a tree won’t grow into utility lines. Then, they are instructed to dig a hole six by six inches and five inches deep, after which they will carefully put the watered tree roots in the hole and fill it with soil so all the roots are covered. They are then educated on how to care for the tree and how much it needs to be watered.

“The children are also taught how to start a tree in a container,” said James. “Either way they choose, it’s effective, inexpensive, easy and fun, as well as highly educational.”

Since 2007, more than 677,280 fourth-graders all across America have planted a tree to help revitalize Arbor Day at school. To sponsor a Fourth Grade Foresters USA event, please visit http://www.fourthgradeforestersusa.com/partners/.
