Don Willis’ Debut Biblical Fiction Novel Makes Powerful Entry
Bentonville, AR (PRWEB) July 12, 2013 -- It is no secret that the popularity of the movie “The Passion of the Christ” and the miniseries “The Bible” had inspired something in the public at large. “These movies caught Hollywood by surprise and resulted in many movie studios creating faith based divisions. The Bible Miniseries shattered viewing records and DVD sales records, reminding them that Christians have a very loud voice.” Willis harnessed this renewed interest in Christian fiction and published, “Tale of the Penitent Thief” (published by WestBow Press), the story of the two unnamed men who were crucified alongside Jesus and how they came to be on Calvary that faithful day.
The main character of the story, Dismas, is a young man that has a chance encounter with the holy family and the Magi. Soon afterwards, his life suffers a terrible tragedy that ends with him and his brother, Jotham, being taken in by a band of thieves with a penchant for violence. Here they meet Gestas, another young man that shares a similar fate with them. Their decisions start a chain of deceit, hurt, betrayal and murder as these young men try in vain to change their inevitable fates. The story features a multitude of biblical figures and wonderful, engaging storytelling. “Tale of the Penitent Thief” ultimately tells a story of forgiveness that will delight readers of all ages.
“If it makes you want to go back and read or re-read the Bible, brings you closer to God or renews your faith in some small way, I would be very satisfied.”
Willis feels that there is a strong demand for more variation in Christian fiction. He says, “The religious fiction category is absolutely dominated by the Amish/Quaker romance stories or the post-Rapture type stories. There certainly wasn’t very much at all for Biblical fiction in the category. The demand for historical and Biblical fiction is encouraging because it shows that people are taking an interest in good Bible based stories.”
