Donna’s Artisan Designs Brings a Twist on High-Low Fashion to GBK's Golden Globes Gift Lounge

The Gift Lounge will take place January 10-11, 2014 at an exclusive location in Beverly Hills, California.
Donna Arena, designer and founder of Donna’s Artisan Designs, was asked by The Artisan Group® to design and create ten pieces of handcrafted jewelry for the Golden Globes press/media gifting. She decided on two distinct designs, representing opposite ends of the jewelry spectrum—one a couture beadwork bracelet and the other an eco-friendly, unisex copper and leather cuff.
The “Classy & Elegant” couture bracelet was created using a time-intensive bead-weaving technique. The bracelet is sleek and sophisticated, with a definite “uptown” vibe and incorporates an assortment of twisted glass bugle beads, some vintage. The unisex copper and leather cuff shows off some of Donna’s favorite leatherwork techniques and has a hand-tooled, distressed look that is all about “downtown.”
“The Uptown/Downtown Collection reflects my eclectic approach to jewelry design and my passion for working with a variety of materials and methods,” remarked Donna. “Whether it’s pairing unexpected elements or incorporating unusual components like vintage glass beads, I love creating designs that break the rules and are edgy or dramatic. I hope the recipients of these pieces will enjoy wearing them as much as I enjoyed creating them.”

Donna creates her jewelry designs out of her home studio near Oklahoma City. She finds inspiration in nature and in her studies of period design and architecture.
In addition to her metalsmithing and beadweaving skills, she is a lapidary artist and designs, cuts, polishes and even hunts for many of the stones showcased in her jewelry. Of this unusual skill she says, “I find lapidary is a great way to create truly unique and one-of-a-kind pieces. Each stone is so individual. With careful examination it speaks to me and I feel I then know exactly how to transform it into the piece of jewelry it was meant to be.”
Donna is a member of the Jewelry on Etsy (JET) Team and the Oklahoma Mineral & Gem Society and has had her jewelry designs featured on the online marketplaces, “9th and Elm” and “EverArabia.” Her jewelry has also been submitted to the wardrobe stylists at “The Vampire Diaries”, “Once Upon a Time” and “Scandal” for consideration of use.
