Spiritual Sub-Text Plays a Role in Dorcas Mladenka’s New Mystery Novel
Canyon Lake, Texas (PRWEB) September 17, 2013 -- In her new mystery novel, “The Secret on the Island” (published by iUniverse), author Dorcas Mladenka tells the story of a rookie detective who unearths a conspiracy after her friend is murdered, and she realizes that she must act fast to stop the killer before he can harm her other friends.
Maggie Haslo, a research assistant at Tanner Investigative Services, begins a personal journey to investigate the death of her colleague and friend, a history professor who had invited her to a dive trip to a 16th-century sunken Spanish galleon. His death coincides with strange threats on her friends in a 16th-century monastery on Port Aransas Island. The rookie detective’s journey spans the island, the San Antonio missions and a battle of wits with a handsome blue-eyed island detective on his mission to solve the conspiracy.
“I sometimes have what I privately think of as a ‘psychic flash.’ A strong sense that whatever it is that’s happening has a reason that somehow fits into the overall destiny of my life. Often I find that the premonition was right. I had a very powerful one now, as I sat among strangers, in a boat, on the sea, in the dark, going, I knew not where. ‘What am I doing here?’ I thought. ‘What does this mean?’”
Mladenka thinks of her book as something that could entertain – a good mystery novel. But that doesn’t mean she shies away from a spiritual subtext. “I believe the spiritual issues help to explain Maggie’s search for inner strength,” she says. “They help to understand and appreciate Maggie.”
