Dr. Cindy Brayer of Creating Smiles Dental Fights Oral Cancer with Screenings at Save the Face Race
St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) March 25, 2015 -- Dr. Cindy Brayer, DMD, PA and her dedicated team at Creating Smiles Dental are a sponsor of the 2015 Save the Face Race being held April 11 at Hurley Park, St. Petersburg Beach, FL to honor Oral Cancer Awareness Month. A second-year race sponsor, Dr. Brayer is taking an additional step to help fight oral cancer by conducting free oral screenings for attendees along aside other local dentists and hygienists.
According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, close to 43,250 Americans will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year. It will cause over 8,000 deaths, killing roughly 1 person every hour, 24 hours a day. Of those 43,250 newly diagnosed individuals, only slightly more than half will be alive in 5 years. Oral cancer kills as many people as melanoma and is now more common than leukemia.
"We are dedicated to helping battle this disease by both increasing awareness and screening to help with early detection. We do a complimentary noninvasive oral cancer screening on each of our patients and then educate them so they can continue to look for signs themselves. It is very rewarding to help save patients’ lives with early detection. These are the same screenings we will be doing at the race," said Dr. Brayer.
As a result of her commitment to perform an oral cancer screening on every patient Dr. Brayer had the pleasure of walking with one of her own cancer survivor patients, Steven H. Dellorto, at the 2014 Save the Face Race.
Notables such as Michael Douglas, a current spokesman for the Oral Cancer Foundation, George Harrison of the Beatles, Rod Stewart, Blythe Danner and Roger Ebert, who passed away from the disease in 2013, have fought oral cancer and have worked to increase awareness of the disease.
All are invited to join the oral cancer fight at the Save the Face Race. Register to walk, run or cheer by going to this page - http://www.stpetelasercosmeticdentist.com/join-oral-cancer-fight/. The race is Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Hurley Park, 1500 Pass-A-Grille Way, St. Petersburg Beach, FL. Registration beings at 6:00 am and the Walk/Run begins at 8:00 am. The Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF), founded by oral cancer survivor Brian R. Hill, is an IRS registered non-profit 501(c)(3) public service charity that provides information, patient support, sponsorship of research, and advocacy related to this disease. OCF maintains a website at http://www.oralcancer.org which receives millions of hits per month. Supporting the foundation's goals is a scientific advisory board composed of leading cancer authorities from varied medical and dental specialties, and from prominent educational, treatment, and research institutions in the United States.
