The EMerge Alliance – an open industry association leading the rapid adoption of safe direct-current (DC) power distribution standards for buildings – today announced the expansion of the EMerge Alliance Registered™ product program to include the first products supporting the EMerge Alliance Data/Telecom Center Standard. The EMerge Alliance Registered product program is the industry’s only program designed to simplify the use and adoption of DC power products that deliver numerous benefits enabling net-zero energy buildings.
The EMerge Alliance Data/Telecom Center Standard creates an integrated, open platform for power, infrastructure, peripheral device and control applications to facilitate the hybrid use of alternating-current (AC) and DC power within data centers and telecommunications central offices. According to EMerge Alliance Chairman Brian Patterson, evaluating and registering products to EMerge Alliance standards is the key to making it easy for building owners and managers to implement innovative DC power products that improve energy efficiency, flexibility, reliability, and sustainability, and reduce the total cost of ownership.
“A significant milestone for the Alliance, these first registered products will begin to make the consistent and safe delivery of 380VDC power distribution in data centers possible,” Patterson said. “Now, owners and specifiers can start to confidently access the products they need to build more efficient, reliable and cost-effective power systems for their mission critical data centers.”
By requiring fewer components and power conversions than their AC counterparts, DC power systems in data centers suffer fewer failures and require less space, energy and maintenance to operate. These systems also simplify the use of locally generated power, providing an effective integration of directly connected on-site generation and storage in any type of building environment.
To date, 100 member products have been submitted for independent evaluation as a part of the EMerge Alliance Registered product program, including the following new products for the EMerge Alliance Occupied Space Standard:

EMerge Alliance at Greenbuild 2013 – Booth #3101
The EMerge Alliance and its members will be exhibiting at Greenbuild in Philadelphia, Nov. 20-22, 2013. Attendees can view member products and learn more about the Alliance and its standards for DC power at booth #3101.This year’s booth will include a suspended ceiling member product demonstration and a wall-mounted member product demonstration, which will spotlight a number of new products from Acuity Brands, Armstrong World Industries, JLC-Tech, Nextek Power Systems, OSRAM SYLVANIA, Philips Electronics and TE Connectivity.
EMerge Alliance Data/Telecom Center Standard
The EMerge Alliance Data/Telecom Standard creates an integrated, open platform for power, infrastructure, peripheral device and control applications to facilitate the hybrid use of AC and DC power within data centers and telecommunications central offices. This change in power distribution architecture involves making a single conversion of the incoming line of AC voltage to 380VDC, and then distributing it directly to rack-mounted ICT equipment, simplifying the otherwise unnecessarily complex power management provisions generally used in today’s AC-powered data centers.
