Author Elizabeth Evans Revisits the Ancient Civilization of West Africa in Her Riveting Historical Novel
Los Angeles, Calif. (PRWEB) December 16, 2013 -- The histories of the ancient civilizations of West Africa are not available to a wider audience because very little information about them can be found today except in the writings of African scholars. Inspired by her desire to give the rest of the world more access to this part of history, author Elizabeth Evans presents her new historical novel, “Sanakhou”.
This book is about the vast riches of the 13th Century Empire of Mali. It touches upon subjects such as the empire’s gold, its salt trade, its first emperor, Sundiata Keita, its people, its lovers and the tradition of sanakhou or brother vows. The kingdom of Mali is ruled by the mighty King Sundiata Keita. A prophecy foretold that he would be a powerful ruler someday, the only one who would be able to defeat the evil Sumanguru. He fulfilled that destiny and now enjoys a peaceful reign in his kingdom. However, he has one dilemma-he needs to find a suitable husband for his spirited daughter, Chinue.
The answer to his prayers comes in the form of a young foreign prince, Ayinde who happens to be the son of Sundiata’s good friend and sanakhou brother, Mansa Faony Konde. The union is not as smooth as they all had hoped, because in their midst lies a traitor who will do anything to stop the marriage of the betrothed. Lies are spread that manage to fuel a dangerous discord.
A compelling and truly heartwarming read, “Sanakhou” will sweep readers off to a different time and place where a rich culture thrives and brave men dwell. It will give readers a glimpse into the ancient civilization of Mali and make them better understand its rich history.
