OPENonline, a leading provider of employment background screening services that is accredited by the NAPBS® Background Screening Credentialing Council, will host a second complimentary webinar for HR professionals about the applicant experience - from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) guidance to the Federal Trade Commissions (FTC) requirements. The complimentary webinar, “7 Reasons To Go Green With Your Background Checks: The EEOC Green Factors,” will also review compliance requirements for employers, including the Ban the Box movement, and the expectations employers should have from their background screening provider. The webinar will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. EST and will be led Karen Kontras, Certified Safe Hiring Specialist and Compliance and Quality Assurance Administrator at OPENonline. Ban the Box works to remove the question, “Have you ever been convicted of a crime?” from initial job applications, deferring such inquiries until later in the hiring process when the information can be fairly weighed in light of an applicant’s qualifications. The movement has resulted in a patchwork of laws, making it increasingly difficult to perform what most employers would consider even the most basic due diligence in the screening process. In addition to Ban the Box, the EEOC Guidance on the use of arrest and conviction records in the hiring process has created additional confusion for employers on the proper usages of criminal records for employment screening.
“The pressure on employers to understand and adhere to the compliance and regulation from the EEOC continues to raise a number of questions,” said Heather Browning, Executive Vice President of OPENonline. “We hope our complimentary legal update webinar will help hiring managers navigate the endless restrictions, requirements, and best practices when it comes to background checks in the employment screening process.”
The webinar, “7 Reasons To Go Green With Your Background Checks: The EEOC Green Factors,” has been approved for 1 (General) re-certification credit hour toward PHR, SPHR and GPHR re-certification through the HR Certification Institute. Register now. ».
