Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) January 30, 2014
Laplink Software, Inc. today announced a free and easy solution to Windows XP users’ worries: On February 4, for one day only, Laplink will give away at no cost PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant – the only way to perform a full in-place upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7.
“I keep hearing that because Microsoft will continue to provide updates to its antimalware software, the April 8 end-of-life deadline doesn’t matter,” said Thomas Koll, Laplink’s CEO. “That is a very dangerous approach. Our company’s position is to encourage all users to move from Windows XP as soon as is practical. For many business users, that means upgrading existing PCs from XP to Windows 7. Our PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant is the best way to do this – and now it’s free for a limited time.”
Windows XP support will end on April 8, 2014. With the end of support comes the end of technical assistance, security updates, and other hot-fixes. While Microsoft has recently announced that it will be providing updates to its antimalware software for Windows XP until 2015, that does not eliminate the risk of continuing to use Windows XP after April 8.
According to a recent study by Trustworthy Computing, Windows XP systems have a malware infection rate six times higher than Windows 8. And AV-Test, who is in the business of testing security solutions, warns that continuing to use Windows XP after April 8 is a major security risk, especially as time goes on.
"Once these [Windows XP] updates are stopped, the system is sure to develop more holes than a good Swiss cheese over time, as programmers start to produce special exploits for Windows XP vulnerabilities," AV-Test said in their blog.
“PCmover helps users get off of Windows XP, whether that’s migrating to a new PC or performing an in-place upgrade on an existing PC,” explained Koll. “PCmover is the only tool of its kind; it’s the only software that supports an in-place upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7. It’s the only software that supports migrating from an old Windows XP computer to a new Windows 8.1 PC. It’s the only software that migrates everything you select – files, settings, and even applications. And it’s the only solution with 24/7 Free Transfer Assistance, where we provide a certified migration technician at no charge to walk users through the entire migration process.”
PCmover comes in several editions for any need, including:
“The top two reasons why someone is still running Windows XP is the cost to upgrade and the hassle to migrate,” continued Koll. “PCmover has always addressed the migration issue. Now, by providing it at no cost, we’re also addressing the first issue.”
Full versions of PCmover can be purchased at http://www.laplink.com or Amazon, Best Buy, Fry's, Micro Center, Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, and other major software retailers and PC manufacturers in North America, Europe, and Japan.
