Enova Illumination Introduces New Digital Battery Packs at Japan Thoracic Surgery Congress; Slimmer, Sleeker Design Fits in Pocket, Powers Enova’s LED Surgical Headlights
Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota (PRWEB) October 03, 2014 -- In response to requests from Japanese surgeons, Enova Illumination has developed a new set of digital battery packs to be used with its LED surgical headlights including the XLT-125, Iris D-200 and Iris S-100. Called the PP2 and the PP4—PP stands for Power Pack—these digital battery packs are longer, thinner and narrower than the company’s current digital battery packs. This week, Enova Illumination Director of Sales and Marketing Jim Nelson is demonstrating the new battery packs to the Japan Thoracic Surgery Congress held in Fukuoka Japan.
The PP2 contains two lithium-ion battery cells, measures 2.25 inches x 4 inches x 1 inch, and is 24 percent smaller than Enova’s B2X digital battery pack. The PP4 contains four lithium-ion battery cells, measures 3.12 inches x 4 inches x 1 inch, and is 17 percent smaller than Enova’s B4X. Both PP models easily fit into a surgical scrubs pocket, are rechargeable, and have battery lives on a single charge comparable to the B2X and the B4X, which range from 2 hours to 24 hours depending on the battery pack, the LED headlight model, and the light intensity setting used.
Because the PP2 and PP4 are digital battery packs, there is no light degradation. Headlight illumination intensity is controlled using UP and DOWN arrows and a battery life indicator offers visual and audible signal when battery life is low on both PP models.
The PP2 and PP4 digital battery packs are not currently available for purchase. Demonstrations of the new packs can be scheduled and pre-orders can be submitted. Enova Illumination expects production of the packs to be complete in Q4 2014.
The PP model digital battery packs are another in a growing list of innovations by Enova Illumination in response to surgeons’ needs. In 2012 the company introduced the Enova XLT-125, its newest headlight and the brightest LED coaxial surgical headlight on the market. It has two extended brackets to provide superior co-axial articulation with or without loupes and an adjustable aperture which allows a surgeon to create a spot size as small as 2” to as large as 6” in diameter. The light itself is 125,000+ lux (measured at 14 inches) of pure white homogenous light for true tissue rendition and deep cavity illumination. Unique to the XLT-125 is the ability to customize color temperature and polarization through a series of attachable lenses and filters. It weighs 7 ounces and has a fully adjustable, padded headband making it easy to wear for long periods of time.
