Industry Sponsors Support Cybersecurity Specialists in Training
Palos Hills, IL (PRWEB) March 24, 2015 -- After months of preparation, top cybersecurity teams in the Midwest are meeting to compete at the Erich J. Spengler’s Midwest Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (MWCCDC) on March 27th – 28th at Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills, IL as industry sponsors come to observe and recruit their next cybersecurity employees.
The need for businesses to have a more robust cybersecurity effort is no secret as constant cyberattacks sweep the nation. Being proactive to avoid data breaches exposing employee/customer data, damaging emails and losing billions of dollars is driving companies’ recruitment efforts full force. Sponsors from all across the U.S. are gathering at Moraine Valley to recruit from this elite group of cybersecurity geniuses.

Cybersecurity jobs are some of the most secure and fastest growing in Information Technology. During the competition, sponsors participate in a career fair/speed-networking event. Representatives from U.S. Army INSCOM, CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, Crowe Horwath, Dell SecureWorks, Department of Homeland Security, Integrys Energy Group, Kellogg’s Company, National Science Foundation, National Security Agency, Navy SPAWAR, Palo Alto Networks, Protiviti, Raytheon, Trustwave, and Zurich will observe, interview and offer jobs on-site. All competitors have their resumes ready and are prepared to interview and potentially hired on the spot.
The MWCCDC simulates real-world cybersecurity experiences. Competing teams must maintain servers and work stations, manage data and perform day-to-day administrative tasks for a business infrastructure while defending and warding off attacks from professional “hackers.”
More than 300 students competed throughout February and March to qualify for the MWCCDC. Participating teams include Davenport University, Northern Kentucky University, DePaul University, Indiana Tech, North Iowa Area Community College, University of Louisville, Lake Superior College, Southeast Missouri State University, Baldwin Wallace University, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. Students will compete for the regional championship and a berth to the national championship in San Antonio, Texas, April 24th-26th.
