Estenda Solutions Inc.'s VP of Research, Dr. Stephanie Fonda and President, Drew Lewis Published in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology
Conshohocken, PA (PRWEB) January 28, 2014 -- The Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology published an article written by Estenda’s VP of Research, Dr. Stephanie Fonda and President, Drew Lewis in collaboration with Robert A. Vigersky, M.D. called “Minding the Gaps in Continuous Glucose Monitoring: A Method to Repair Gaps to Achieve More Accurate Glucometrics.”
The article explains that although continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has the ability to aid in the process of gathering frequent measures of glucose for the “estimation of glycemic variability,” which might be an independent risk factor for diabetes-related complications, “under real-world conditions, gaps of greater than or equal to 10 minutes can occur in CGM data, affecting the reliability of certain estimates of glucose variability.” The authors developed and described an approach that fills in the common gaps that occur in CGM data.
The analysis of the data collected led to a “linear interpolation approach” that “distributed the pregap and postgap glucose difference evenly across the expected time points or missed readings.”
The authors described the strengths of the gap repair process as, “conservative” and “easy to implement with several steps,” while arguing that it also “makes it possible to calculate time-dependent measures that might be of interest to clinicians looking at their patients’ glucose variability.”
