Between May 22 and 25th, European citizens will have a chance to vote for their new Members of European Parliament who will be in office for the next five years. For the first time in history, newly elected MEPs will then choose the new President of the European Commission among candidates from the main European political groups.
European Citizens Abroad, a non-partisan citizens’ organization, is committed to engaging with their compatriots who live outside their country of origin - in the EU or outside the EU.
Today, we announce the release of our new video “European Elections 2014: your right to vote abroad,” an important educational and awareness piece for all EU citizens and decision makers.
In fact, each EU Member State is responsible for the organization of these elections in their countries, and rules may vary based on national electoral law. This creates complexity for citizens, but also inequalities since not all EU citizens have the right to vote when they do not live in their home country.
With the campaign Europeans Abroad Vote 2014, European Citizens Abroad is raising awareness for the 2014 European Elections and advocating for equal voting rights for all EU citizens regardless of their country of residence via a petition on change.org.
Believe in it. Act on it.
