Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3, the “Mississippi Blues Child” himself, Mr. Sipp, graces the stage. Sipp has been playing the guitar since he was six years old and has played on over 50 national recordings, including several which have garnered Grammy nominations. In 2014, he won the International Blues Challenge, confirming him as one of the most original and soulful blues artists in the world.
Friday, May 9, the dynamic Kevin Selfe & the Tornadoes will tear up the club. A leading figure in the Pacific Northwest’s booming blues revival movement, Selfe has a reputation as a skillful songwriter and astonishing live performer. His talents are backed by the exceptional Tornadoes, and as a group, they have garnered profuse critical accolades.
Saturday, May 10, Paula Harris will demonstrate her impudent take on blues, funk, and jazz. With her band, the “Beasts of Blues,” Harris has already been making her mark on the blues scene and is certainly a performer to watch.
On Mother’s Day (May 11), the spectacular Terrie Odabi will present a tribute to Etta James. Odabi has been compared to all the greats, and dominates the stage with her soaring voice and talented backing band.
Alan Iglesias returns to Biscuits & Blues Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16 with his renowned tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan. A consummate showman and blistering guitar player, Iglesias and his band Crossfire put on a rollicking and loving tribute to the legend.
Saturday, May 17, the queen of classic jazz and blues, Lavay Smith, will take the stage once again. Internationally famous and indisputably talented, Lavay & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers never disappoint. Their monthly residency at Biscuits & Blues has garnered them a devoted following, and their live shows are exemplars of energy and panache.
Thursday, May 22, the Rae Gordon Band will showcase their musicianship and signature sound. Winner of the 2013 Muddy Award for Best Female Vocalist, Rae Gordon is a rising star with remarkable range and ability.
Combining blazing guitar licks with hip-hop lyricism, Jarekus Singleton will take the stage Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24. Jarekus and his band have been showered with accolades by audiences and music critics alike, and his immense energy and verve have made him a legend in the making as a live performer.
Friday, May 30, the veteran bluesman James Harman will play the Biscuits & Blues stage. Harman has been recording since he was 18 years old, and five decades, 31 releases and 19 W.C. Handy Award nominations later, he still brings down the house with every show.
The ferocious “blues lioness”, Sista Monica Parker, returns triumphantly Saturday, May 31. Widely regarded as one of the best blues vocalists in the country, Sista Monica is equally recognized for her captivating stage presence.
Thursday, June 5, Nick Moss and his band will command the stage. Having drawn high praise and recognition from such luminaries as Buddy Guy and Jimmy Thackery, Moss has demonstrated again and again that he deserves to be upheld as one of the great modern blues masters.
