Excess Baggage Thrift & More Celebrates Opening on Friday, April 11, 2014
Statesboro, GA (PRWEB) March 31, 2014 -- A new charity thrift store is opening at 300 East Main Street on April 11, 2014. The charity thrift store will benefit Fostering Bulloch, an organization that seeks to share the love of Christ with children in crisis situations, in real and tactile ways to support children and families.
Excess Baggage Thrift & More was recently founded by Mary Ellen Alexander, who recently retired and moved to Statesboro. She had dreams of opening a bakery, tea room, or wedding cake shop, but her real mission was to find a way to help others. With a turn of events, she ended up opening a charity thrift store instead.
During her move, Mary Ellen commented to a friend that taking her unneeded stuff to a local consignment store was a great feeling…like getting rid of excess baggage. The name stuck…and Excess Baggage Thrift & More was born.
When considering the type of charity she wanted to support, children were at the top of the list. At the same time, she was looking for remodeling services online and called the first company she found. That’s when she met Chris Yaughn and heard about the work he does to support Foster Children and families in Bulloch County through the nonprofit, Fostering Bulloch. “I was impressed that he left a successful business to dedicate his full-time efforts to helping the community’s most vulnerable residents,” said Mary Ellen.
One unique aspect of the partnership between Fostering Bulloch and Excess Baggage Thrift & More is that donations will often go directly to those in need. While an organization needs funds in order to carry out its mission, sometimes the need is immediate…shoes, a bed, a warm coat. Donations that can be put to immediate use will be distributed directly to recipients, while others may be circulated to other organizations in the community that are providing services to people in need.
Excess Baggage Thrift & More will open on Friday, April 11 at 10 a.m., and will be open thereafter Wednesday thru Saturday, from 10-3. Volunteer opportunities are available and donations are being accepted at the store, located at 300 East Main Street, daily. Help with pickup of larger donations is available by appointment.
