"With all the opportunities to attend and participate in a wide variety of fine art activities, it is very difficult to only select a couple to highlight each month", states Susan Ahlers Leman, FD Fine Arts Board Member.

The Karl L. King Municipal Band performance is scheduled for April 12th at 3:30 pm in the Decker Auditorium located on the Iowa Central Community College Campus. The annual performance honors students that are planning on pursuing a career in Instrumental Music Education. A $1,000 scholarship will go to a student attending a college or university in Iowa and there will be two $500 scholarships awarded to students planning on attending Iowa Central Community College.

This year's performance focus will be tied in with the Cultural Focus at Iowa Central Community College and feature songs from Scandinavian countries. Selections include The Viking”, “New Frontiers”, “Entry March of the Boyares” by Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen, “Danish Patrol” by Roger Britten, and the Norwegian march, “Valdres”, by Johannes Hanssen. Conductors are Jerrold P. Jimmerson and Dr. David Klee serves as the Assistant Conductor of the band. The entire community is invited to attend this free concert and honor our high school seniors of 2015.

Always a favorite will be the 88th Annual Musical by the Fort Dodge Senior High Music Department of “Damn Yankees”. Performances are nightly at 7:00 pm at the Fort Dodge Middle School Auditorium starting April 29th through May 2nd. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students

Damn Yankees, based on Douglas Wallop's The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant, gives a new twist to the legend of Faust when a middle-aged baseball fan sells his soul to the Devil, a.k.a. Mr. Applegate, for the chance to play for the Washington Senators. Transformed into a young man, this over-eager fan's dreams are soon fulfilled when he finds himself leading the team in both hitting and pitching, but Damn Yankees keeps the story interesting, for there is a price to be paid, and the Devil and his seductive assistant Lola (Gwen Verdon) are waiting to collect.

"With all the opportunities to attend and participate in a wide variety of fine art activities, it is very difficult to only select a couple to highlight each month", states Susan Ahlers Leman, FD Fine Arts Board Member.
