Fidelis Companies Gives Back to Local Community
Plano, TX (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- Minnie’s Food Pantry was founded in 2008 and operates under the slogan, “If you can’t feed one hundred people, Feed just ONE.” And each week, Wednesday thru Saturday their team and volunteers show up to do just that. They have built a family and a strong bond with the community they serve by providing red carpet service to people who visit the pantry.
Fidelis employees were given the opportunity to give up a morning at the office and volunteer their time at the food pantry. Those who chose to participate met at the food pantry and were split into teams with other volunteers. The main volunteer duties are packing boxes, sorting donations or helping carry food boxes to the vehicles of the food pantry visitors.
Erica Simon, the Director of Operations, oversees the volunteers and ensures all boxes are packed, questions are answered and the morning runs as smoothly as possible. But most importantly, everyone who walks through the doors at Minnie’s Food Pantry is treated with respect and red carpet service.
“It was a great honor to be able to serve with the Minnie’s Food Pantry team. Our employees had a wonderful time giving back and it truly was a great experience,” Karen Richards, President & CEO.
Over 100 boxes were packed for the Collin County community last Friday with staple items, desserts and necessities for both the refrigerator and the pantry. Fidelis Companies employees were honored to have the opportunity to give back to such a strong organization so close to home.
About Minnie’s Food Pantry
There is a hunger issue in America. One out of 6 children suffers from hunger. On April 1, 2008, Cheryl “Action” Jackson, decided to be a part of the solution for her home state of Texas. As a little girl, her mother, Minnie Ewing, often wondered if and when she would receive her next meal. She painted the picture to Jackson of her grandmother walking for miles to work two jobs to provide food and shelter for their family. Jackson’s parents raised seven children. It seemed as though the doors to her home revolved like a store as she watched her parents distribute food, clothes, and most importantly their time and prayers to the community and members of their congregation. Minnie’s Food Pantry continues the family legacy that was taught to Jackson and feeding the hungry is now the fabric of her family. For more information, visit http://minniesfoodpantry.org/.
