Korner Theatricals and Co-Producer Yandy Smith to Present “For Vixens Who’ve Considered Homicide When the Video Was Too Much” NYC Opening Night August 18th
New York, NY (PRWEB) August 04, 2014 -- Korner Theatricals will present “For Vixens Who’ve Considered Homicide When the Video Was Too Much,” a new musical comedy from award winning playwright and actor J. Kyle Manzay. Starring actresses Nawshawn Kearse and Melyssa Ford, “For Vixens” will open at the American Theater of Actors in New York City (314 W. 54th Street) on August 18, 2014 and will run through August 24th. Tickets are on sale now.
Set in the present day era of bright lights, champagne and industry casting couches, “For Vixens” gives a satirically colorful and candid inside look into the lives and mystique of selectively sultry women in the music industry that have long become the ultimate ingredient to a music video’s visual success, the video vixen. “For Vixens” is the story of the glamorously raw lifestyle, politics, scandals and internal struggles one young woman encounters while upon her aspiring journey to becoming a music video vixen and the stories of the vixens who educate her along the way.
“For Vixens Who’ve Considered Homicide When the Video Was Too Much,” is produced and written by Obie Award winning stage and film actor (The Blacks, Waiting for Godot, Little Manhattan, American Gangster, etc.) and critically acclaimed playwright and director J. Kyle Manzay, co-produced by music executive, multi-media entrepreneur and TV personality Yandy Smith and co-conceived by Melyssa Ford. Manzay made a roaring splash for his off-Broadway production of “The Actor’s Rap” and again at the 37th Arts Theatre for his conceptualized musical presentation of “Hip Hop Monologues: Inside the Life & Mind of Jim Jones” produced by Sony Music Entertainment and J. Kyle’s Korner Entertainment.
About the upcoming debut of “For Vixen’s,” Manzay says, "We've put a lot of work into this production. I would warn people not to judge it before they see it. It's not what you may think. I really believe the story will surprise most people and many will find the themes universal. Overall, this musical will provoke, humor, inspire and humor some more. "
In her lead performance, Ms. Ford, who co-conceived the play’s concept with J. Kyle Manzay, will originate the role of Grand Vixen and vixen-rights advocate Monica Forte. “Not only does this theatrical experience feel like my most tangible professional endeavor, it has also provided an overwhelming sense of creative validation within me. I am proud of this work,” says Ms. Ford. Melyssa Ford launched her professional career as a music video vixen in 1997 and quickly elevated to the pinnacle of video vixen stardom and attained mainstream recognition as a principle vixen in dozens of videos for super star artists such as Jay-Z, R. Kelly, Usher, and many others. Currently an actress and media personality, Ford has moved on from videos to star in TV shows and motion picture films such as Entourage, Three Can Play That Game and the upcoming release Days of Wrath starring Laurence Fishburne among others. She’s previously taken on the post of co-host of BET’s former entertainment magazine show BET Style and is currently the star of Bravo TV’s hit reality series “Blood, Sweat & Heels.”
