Some years ago, author Frank Sutherland Davidson and his wife were often travelling to Europe. It is a long plane trip and tired of watching videos and movies, he tried to take along something to read that would be diverting, easy to read and able to be finished in the 30 hours or so from take off in Sydney to arrival in Budapest. One day soon after the arrival, the thought occurred to him that rather than keep looking for a book to read on the way home, he could amuse himself by producing the kind of story he was looking for. So he invented two people who get the opportunity to travel the Kangaroo Route from Sydney to London and have some adventures along the way. That is when a storyline leapt into his mind.

He weaves an action-packed, fast-paced crime novel that takes place in the friendly skies, sure to captivate readers’ imagination. “The Coral Airlines Mystery” is a lighthearted, entertaining caper Davidson crafts with a sure hand, taking readers up into the rarefied realm of airline crimes.

Happily-married couple Toby and Birdie Parkinson set out as passengers on a new airline from Sydney to London, but they find themselves in a situation that is by turns mystifying and sinister. There is something mysterious about their fellow passengers. To top it all, the route is suddenly changed. Can they trust anybody on board? For Toby and Birdie, this experience is one of those unexpected happenings that can change the lives of ordinary people such as themselves. Little did they think when they left home that they would stumble into an international crime ring, or that their adventure would open up new friendships. This light-hearted mystery is designed to interest a travelling reader who needs to be entertained during a long trip. Despite its light and humorous touch, it manages to explore the current subjects of terrorism, murder and drug-related crimes.

It is not the author’s intention to deal with “issues” or write a story filled with steamy sex or gratuitous violence. His aim is rather to create a fast-moving plot with enough mysterious twists and turns to keep the reader guessing until the end. “The Coral Airlines Mystery” was the result.
