The Link family had humble beginnings, Luise Martha Krause and Georg Link immigrated separately to the United States from Germany in the late 19th century. They met and married in Buffalo, New York, and proceeded to create a family of great intellectual and artistic vigor. Their children would grow up to be highly educated and renowned professionals, singers, and artists instilled with the passion of learning and conveying their thoughts and feelings through both written and spoken words. This gift would be likewise passed on to their own children, and their children’s children. “Family Voices” collects a large number of these works, including essays and stories from the early 20th century, to prose and poetry regaling the tranquility of an idyllic island refuge, and musings on crucial life events, and even translations of great foreign-language classics. Through these works, Spaeth honors the memory of his forebears and their legacy, and simultaneously gives readers a window into the minds and souls of an unusually talented family.

About the Author
George Spaeth graduated, Phi Beta Kappa, from Yale University with a BA, magna cum laude, in history. Following graduation, Alpha Omega Alpha, from Harvard Medical School, and an internship at the University of Michigan, he did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania, residency training in ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital, and a fellowship at the National Institutes of Health. He entered practice to become a full Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University in 1970, and Director of the Glaucoma Service at the Wills Eye Hospital, a position which he held until 2006. He is presently the Louis Esposito Research Professor, having written over 300 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 22 books, over 100 book chapters, and over 200 editorials. He continues to write and present extensively, internationally, related to his patient-centered view of care and ethical considerations. He received the Research Award from the International Glaucoma Research Society, the Weisenfeld Award from the Association of Research and Vision in Ophthalmology, and the 10th Annual Research Award from the European Association for Vision and Eye Research. His trainees occupy leadership positions in 24 countries around the world. His interests, however, include writing, composing music, and gardening in which he has also received awards. His wife, Ann Ward Spaeth, and his three children are the major focus in his life.
