Author Gerard G. Nahum’s new novel, “Eli’s Children: Bright College Years” (published by Archway Publishing), is a coming-of-age story that delves into the lives of a group of college students who are thrown together in the rarefied environment of the Ivy League to come to grips with life, each other and their own core values — all before the Internet changed the world.

The novel follows the careers of young adults from around the U.S. and the world as they attempt to traverse the era’s muddied academic and social waters. They make the transition from idealistic adolescents to realistic upperclassmen — educated, primed and ready to face the challenges of the world around them.

Told with humor and insight, the novel confronts the challenges of friendship, tolerance, love and betrayal at a time of life filled with uncertainty, angst, bravado and pretention. The book portrays these elements within the context of self-conscious adolescence, before it settles into the mature routine of an elite community striving to lead as it tries to maintain its relevance in the greater world.

“The book strikes a common chord of understanding that transcends social class, educational background, and economic status and teaches hard-learned lessons to hone in on the most important of human drives and emotions: friendship, purpose, understanding, and true love,” Nahum says.
