GlobeQuest Travel Club Recommends Celebrating Mexican Independence in Cabo San Lucas
CABO SAN LUCAS, Mexico (PRWEB) September 01, 2015 -- As the summer vacation rush winds down, visitors to Cabo San Lucas will still find many amazing places to see and things to do. GlobeQuest Travel Club believes that fall may actually be the best time to experience this picturesque seaside town. The crowds have thinned out and some local establishments even begin to offer seasonal deals.
September is also a time for celebration, as the people of Cabo San Lucas and the rest of Mexico celebrate the Cry of Dolores on Sept. 15 and Mexico’s Independence Day on Sept. 16. GlobeQuest Travel Club recommends visitors here celebrate these historic events and enjoy the festivities with the locals.
Grito de Dolores, or the Cry of Dolores, marked the start of the Mexican War of Independence. According to historians, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Roman Catholic priest, gathered his congregation and encouraged them to revolt against Spain on Sept. 16, 1810. GlobeQuest Travel Club shares that the "grito" is this call for freedom.
Hidalgo y Costilla’s "cry of independence" is now a symbol of Mexican independence. While historians do not agree on the exact wording of the priest’s original speech, the president of Mexico gives his own grito of patriotism – Grito Mexicano – based upon the "Grito de Dolores." This same tradition takes place in cities across Mexico, including Cabo San Lucas. Political leaders in each city begin the ceremony with the ringing of bells followed with a patriotic speech that includes the names of the important heroes of the Mexican War of Independence. At the conclusion of these speeches, the speaker and the crowd usually give a threefold shout of “¡Viva México!” followed by ringing bells and the waving of the Flag of Mexico. GlobeQuest Travel Club shares that celebrants may also join in a mass singing of the Himno Nacional Mexicano, the national anthem.
