GourmetGiftBaskets.com’s Survey Says Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups Are Top Candies for Halloween 2014
KINGSTON, NH (PRWEB) October 31, 2014 -- Many traditions surround Halloween, including colorful costumes, trick-or-treating, pumpkin carving, and more. But what’s the best part of this centuries-old holiday tradition? For many these days, it comes down to one word: candy. So the gifting experts at GourmetGiftBaskets.com decided to poll their Facebook fans and ask, “What’s your favorite Halloween candy?” After a few weeks, one clear winner rose to the surface: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, claiming more than 39% of the vote.
The poll attracted nearly 2,000 Facebook voters – teens, as well as men and women of all ages across the U.S. While no candy came close to Reese’s popularity, two other American favorites – Milky Way Bars and Starburst Fruit Chews – tied for second place with more than 11% of the vote each.
“As we offer many of the candies from our poll in our gifts, we weren’t surprised that Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were a huge favorite,” said Jason Bergeron, the company’s Director of Sales & Marketing. “Of course, Milky Way Bars and Starburst Fruit Chews are also popular, so we couldn’t have predicted that there would be almost a 30% difference between the No. 1 candy and the two that tied for second place. Personally, my favorite came in third place – Butterfinger. It’s a retro candy for sure, but it reminds me of my first few Halloweens anytime I eat it.”
Twix just missed a tie for third place, coming in fourth with more than six percent of the vote. M&M’S placed in fifth place. Others that were honorable mentions include: DOTS, Nestle Crunch Bars, Hot Tamales, Mike & Ike, Nerds, Snickers, Skittles, SweeTARTS, Tootsie Pops, Tootsie Rolls, Twizzlers, and Whoppers.
While several of GourmetGiftBaskets.com’s Facebook fans were voting on their favorite candies, they were also purchasing all types of Halloween gifts from the site. Halloween sales in 2014 have been robust, with an increase of 36% over last year.
“We’re hoping that this surge in sales also translates to the general holiday season, which starts right after Halloween for us,” added Bergeron. “Easter was up by 31% this year and Grandparents Day was up by 238%, so consumer confidence appears to be on the rise in our sector. With many new product offerings, we’re looking forward to what could be our best holiday season in 12 years.”
One of GourmetGiftBaskets.com’s hottest offerings for November is the Thanksgiving Popcorn Feast – a nine-flavor medley representing all of the flavors you would normally find at a Thanksgiving Feast.
