HS-UK provide University of Sheffield with extensive Orthoptic equipment for new state-of-the-art clinical facility
Harlow, Essex (PRWEB UK) 31 January 2014 -- Haag-Streit UK (HS-UK), the leading manufacturer and distributor of gold-standard optometry and ophthalmic equipment, is delighted to have supplied the University of Sheffield with an extensive array of Orthoptic equipment to aid students learning in their brand new facility.
The University recently received funding from Health Education Yorkshire and the Humber to replace their Orthoptic equipment for the first time in 20 years. The Orthoptic department approached HS-UK as they offer a comprehensive range of equipment, including niche tests that were not available elsewhere.
As the leading manufacturer and distributor of Orthoptic equipment, HS-UK has supported the University of Sheffield for many years. A variety of HS-UK equipment has previously been loaned to the Orthoptic department, including; a BQ900 slit lamp and an Octopus 900 perimeter, which aided clinical research and training.
New equipment supplied by HS-UK, included; an array of visual acuity and stereo-vision tests, diagnostic prisms and the Clement Clarke Ophthalmic Synoptophore. In addition to this, there were niche items, such as the Maddox cross and Awaya cyclo-deviation test.
The University of Sheffield is one of only three universities in the country which offer Orthoptic courses. The department is renowned for providing high-quality, research-led teaching. Learning is both clinical and laboratory-based, with students also undertaking clinical training in Orthoptic departments, throughout the UK.
Undergraduates are now benefitting from learning in the first new state-of-the-art clinical teaching facilities in the Jessop Wing of Hallamshire Hospital. Helen Davis, Head of Orthoptics, University of Sheffield, commented, “We are all thrilled by our new teaching space which emulates the environment of a hospital clinic, giving our students a strong foundation on which to build their clinical skills throughout the course.”
Sam Laidlaw, HS-UK Product Manager, said, “HS-UK has worked alongside the University of Sheffield for many years and were delighted to be given the opportunity to provide them with our specialist equipment, to aid undergraduate students with their learning. The wide range of equipment provided will help improve students’ knowledge and prepare them for a career in the NHS.”
The University of Sheffield hope to have all the redevelopment completed by Summer 2014.
