Historic Accomplishment as Hector Picard Becomes World’s First Double Arm Amputee to Finish the Ironman World Championship
Kona, HI (PRWEB) October 10, 2016 -- Triathlete, actor and spokesman for Novation Settlement Solutions Hector Picard became the first double arm amputee ever to complete the iconic Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, on October 8, 2016. Hector dedicated his historic race to inspiring and raising funds for some of the most medically fragile children in the nation, and will visit the hospital where they are receiving treatment to share his story of inspiration and his medal with the young patients.
To achieve his remarkable accomplishment of completing the Ironman World Championship, Hector swam 2.4 miles (in a special technique he created), cycled 112 miles (on a bike he modified) and then ran a full marathon (26.2 miles) – all while wearing a photo collage of the children for whom he raced.
“Finishing the Ironman World Championship was one of my biggest goals, and I am incredibly honored to be able to dedicate this race to the kids at Broward Children’s Center,” said Hector Picard. “I want to thank my sponsor Novation Settlement Solutions, for making this and my other races possible, and everyone else who supported me along the way. I was once given a second chance at life, and I hope that my efforts will help give a second chance to those who need it most.”
Novation Settlement Solutions President John Marsano said of Hector: “We extend our warmest congratulations to Hector on his truly astounding achievement. Novation Settlement Solutions is extremely proud and honored to help share Hector’s important message, which continues to touch so many lives and to inspire people across the country and around the world.”
As part of his #RacingForTrueChampions campaign, Hector Picard completed more than 25 triathlons this year alone, dedicating each race to a different child undergoing treatment in his hometown at Broward Children’s Center in Florida. Hector also serves as a spokesman for Novation Settlement Solutions, the company he often credits for helping launch his “second chance at life” as a motivational speaker and a triathlete after losing his limbs due in a traumatic workplace accident.
