The Hermitage Club Today Announced It Has Purchased the Assets of The Inn at Sawmill Farm
West Dover, VT (PRWEB) January 07, 2015 -- The Hermitage Club at Haystack Mountain, a full-service private ski club in Southern Vermont’s Deerfield Valley, announces the acquisition of the assets of The Inn at Sawmill Farm, one of the first businesses in Dover dating back to the 1790’s.
The Inn resides on a 20 acre property and includes 21 guest rooms which includes two private cottages, and the former innkeeper’s estate home. With this acquisition, The Hermitage Club now offers more than 100 rooms for members and their guests. Just minutes from The Hermitage Club main entrance, this manicured property boasts two ponds, a heated swimming pool, snow shoe and hiking trails, outdoor tennis courts, spa services and much more.
Hermitage Club Founder and President, Jim Barnes, said, "We needed more rooms to accommodate our members and prospective members and the Inn at Sawmill Farm serves as the perfect location to do that." He further added," we started work two weeks ago repainting, removing wallpaper, installing new carpet, bedding and flat screen TV's. We took most rooms off the market and expect to re-open certain rooms this coming weekend." The staff has been rehired and continues to be led by Marco Tallini who will report to Hermitage Club vice president of club and hotel operations, Rob Aubin.
Barnes added, "guests of The Inn at Sawmill Farm now have access to Hermitage Club amenities and privileges including our uncrowded, all-day corduroy terrain, our 80,000 square foot Clubhouse including the movie theater, bowling alley and our new 14 bed spa. Although it's possible to book a room as a non-member it’s highly unlikely you will be able to as we've taken all rooms off line to book internally."
The Inn is also home to the only Italian restaurant in the Deerfield Valley offering masterful northern and southern classic dishes, fresh seafood brought in daily and an elegant and inviting ambiance.

About The Inn at Sawmill Farm
On the site of what would, more than 170 years later, become the grounds of The Inn at Sawmill Farm, William Cragg built a Sawmill in 1796. It was the first business in the new village that was destined to become West Dover. One of the remaining farms, the Winston Farm, was purchased in 1967, and became the base for The Inn at Sawmill Farm. Although originally intended to become the owners’ vacation home, plans evolved as they often do, and instead, a world-class Inn was born.
During the building process, the old farm was resurrected. The large barn’s existing hand-hewn posts and beams, mellowed barn boards, old bricks and field stones were all incorporated into the construction of the Inn. The original flavor of the buildings was retained, with the barn’s red & white exterior walls becoming part of an interior hallway, and the hayloft turning into a library and game room. The end result was a charming yet sophisticated four-star retreat on 20 acres.
The Inn at Sawmill Farm opened with nine guest rooms, a living room, kitchen and one dining room. The owners lived in the original farmhouse, which has since been converted into four additional guest rooms. Over the years, the Inn has been carefully expanded, with the addition of more dining space, office space, a cozy copper-topped bar, and more guest rooms. There are two ponds for trout fishing, an outdoor pool, two gazebos and a tennis court.
After more than four decades in operation since opening in 1969, it has retained the intimate, small inn quality, rustic elegance and unpretentious sophistication that have always been its hallmark.
