Hobart discussed the U.S. earnings season and why Google has the potential to succeed on CNBC Asia’s “Cash Flow” segment on October 18th. Google recently announced an 8 percent rise in shares due to an unexpected revenue comeback this season. In fact, the company posted the best profit growth in more than a year.
However, there are many investors concerned about Google’s lower ad rate environment on mobile devices and how it could impact mobile clicks.
Though the ad rate has been declining, Hobart, a Charlotte retirement planning expert, says it’s still a company worth investing in. “It’s not just all about the clicks for them,” he says. “They’re investing in other technology outside of their industry, like the driverless car. They’re looking beyond just the clicks right now.”
Google has also made significant investments in alternative energy and other types of technology like WiFi balloons and the Google Fiber cable system. Some investors think Google is spreading itself too thin and could go “belly up.” Hobart says investors shouldn’t worry too much about Google’s other projects.
“You look at anybody that has great success and with it comes great failure,” he says. “But it’s not about the failure for them. They’re going to strike areas of huge goldmines and that’s where it’s going to make a difference. The ideas that do work are going to be the game changers. I firmly believe that Google is going to be one of those companies that we look at five or 10 years from now and we say they redefined how we live day-to-day.”
