New Hospice Item Set Implementation Guide Released by Weatherbee Resources
Hyannis, MA (PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- Weatherbee Resources has announced the publication of a new, downloadable resource, The Hospice Item Set: A Step-by-Step Implementation Guide, to help hospices navigate the complexities of this new mandatory process. This comprehensive guide provides tools and resources hospices need to implement the Hospice Item Set (HIS).
Beginning July 1, 2014, all hospices are required to implement the HIS, a standardized mechanism for abstracting data related to 7 quality measures from the medical records of hospice patients. Weatherbee's HIS guide breaks the process down into five functions and explains each one in detail: Collecting the Data; Abstracting the Data; Reviewing HIS Records; Converting HIS Records; and Submitting HIS Records.
"When I read the Hospice Item Set requirements and listened to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services HIS online training, I realized that many hospices would benefit from a systematized process to accomplish all the tasks necessary to implement HIS," stated Heather P. Wilson, CEO of Weatherbee Resources. "We created a resource that guides hospices through the entire process, providing tools and resources to train and prepare staff as well as modify systems to be in compliance with the requirements."
The Hospice Item Set: A Step-by-Step Implementation Guide includes tools that can be downloaded and customized, including a spreadsheet to track HIS deadlines, a tool to ensure the hospice documentation system captures the required information, and four customizable PowerPoint presentations for training staff. The downloadable manual can be purchased online -- http://www.weatherbeeresources.com.
"The HIS is the most comprehensive requirement yet for hospice quality reporting," stated Melanie Merriman, co-author of the guide and head of Touchstone Consulting. "Hospices will have to submit 51 data elements on every single patient. Even for hospices with a supportive EMR vendor, it will be critical to put systems in place to handle this workload. Our Guide explains how to set up those systems."
