EKU Fire Science Degree Programs Accredited by International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC)
Richmond, KY (PRWEB) September 11, 2014 -- The International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) has re-accredited all three bachelor’s degree programs in fire protection offered by Eastern Kentucky University.
IFSAC is a peer-driven, self-governing entity that evaluates fire-related degree programs, as well as fire service certification programs. Once accredited, programs must be re-evaluated every five years to ensure standards are being met.
EKU received its initial IFSAC accreditation in March 2009, and a site team visited the Richmond, Kentucky campus again on March 24-28, 2014. Bill Hicks, assistant professor for the EKU Department of Safety, Security & Emergency Management, serves as the university’s IFSAC representative and oversaw the reaccreditation process.
Bachelor of science degrees in Fire, Arson & Explosion Investigation; Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology; and Fire Protection Administration were reaccredited.
A letter from IFSAC Program Manager Eldonna Creager to EKU read, “We commend you, the administrators, faculty and staff on the time, work and effort put forth to participate in this process and your desire to provide quality programs for those pursuing fire-related careers.”
EKU has offered fire degrees for more than 40 years, and now offers graduates the opportunity to study online or on campus. The current programs were designed with multiple types of professional accreditation in mind, regardless of the method of delivery students choose.
“Everything we do here is continually re-evaluated for quality. We pride ourselves on the effectiveness of our teaching and, most importantly, the knowledge of our graduates,“ said Hicks.
Online students take the same courses, with the same instructors as those on campus and earn the same fully-accredited degree.
Eastern Kentucky University’s College of Justice & Safety offers three accredited and highly respected degree programs in fire protection, which are available online and on-campus. Students may choose from Fire, Arson & Explosion Investigation, Fire Protection Administration and Fire Protection & Safety Engineering Technology. EKU is a fully accredited, brick-and-mortar institution celebrating more than 100 years of student success.
